Personal Information:
I am a qualified Specialist Dyslexia Teacher, with a Postgraduate Diploma (Level 7) in Teaching and Learning (Dyslexia/ SpLD). I am a full member of PATOSS and hold Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance.
I worked as a Primary School Teacher for 12 years, teaching Primary National Curriculum before broadening my skills in education and working as an Adult Literacy Supporter for students with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities, and eventually retraining as a Dyslexia Specialist Teacher/ Assessor.
In the past, I held an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC), which enabled me to diagnose Dyslexia and I have worked in a variety of schools and colleges of Further Education, both employed and on a free-lance basis, assessing students for access arrangements in public examinations.
I have worked as a private tutor, delivering structured literacy interventions to Dyslexic learners for at least 5 years.
I am an empathic teacher and strive to celebrate and reward effort and achievement at every opportunity. I aim to develop enthusiasm and motivation for learning, as well as enjoyment. I try to incorporate personal interests into my lessons, to ensure involvement and engagement with the subject matter, to improve and develop knowledge and skills, and I like to inject a little fun and humour into lessons, when appropriate and possible.
I consider myself primarily a 'skills' teacher and I am particularly interested in Literacy intervention (Reading, Spelling, Writing) and Study Skills tuition, developing learners' metacognition so that students know how they learn best. However, I am also able to offer numeracy intervention up to Key Stage 2.
I have an enhanced DBS Certificate and am registered with the DBS Updating Service.
